KYIV: The global covid-19 pandemic is crippling economies and businesses across the globe. But for Kyiv based online language tutoring startup Preply, business booming.

The Ukrainian startup recently raised about $10 million in a Series A funding round led by London based Hoxton Ventures, Point Nine Capital, All Iron Ventures, EduCapital and Diligent Capital.

Preply plans to use this new funding to grow the number of its verified tutors to 10,000 and start teaching 50 languages to students in 190 countries. 

“We are in a favourable position. People are at home because of the virus, so they can spend more time on online learning.” Dmytro Voloshyn, the co-founder and chief technical officer of the Preply told AFP.

Preply employs 125 staff from 25 different nationalities in offices in Kyiv and Barcelona.
